Course Description

This course seeks to answer the question: “What does it mean to age well?” This course explores aging not as decline, but as a profound spiritual, emotional, and psychological transformation. Drawing from contemporary thinkers, spiritual teachers, and storytellers, we will examine how aging can be a time of deepening wisdom, healing, and purpose. This class will explore how intention can be applied to the aging process to maintain a fulfilling life, as it applies to one's personal experience, the role of supporting a loved one, or in a professional capacity.

Students will compare and contrast cultural and spiritual contexts and integrate teachings from interprofessional perspectives with guest speakers. They will develop practices that promote wellbeing, such as mindfulness and self- compassion, and learn tools to help others and themselves on the aging journey. By the end of the course, students will create a personal statement of beliefs and intentions for aging at all points of their lives, preparing themselves to engage meaningfully with the complexities of aging in both their professional and personal lives.
