Course Description

Nature Immersion—also known as forest bathing, shinrin-yoku, or nature-based mindfulness—is an evidence-based practice that fosters significant physical health benefits, mental wellbeing, and spiritual renewal. The modern world, with its relentless pace and constant digital demands, often disconnects our minds and bodies from the natural environment, leading to increased stress and distraction. This practice provides a crucial antidote, encouraging dedicated time outdoors to experience the stillness of a natural place and facilitating a profound reconnection with the environment and one's self.

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the theories, practices, and science behind nature immersion. Through a blend of academic study and experiential activities, students will be guided through their own personal practice. Learning is applied through engaging case studies, collaborative online discussions, and the development of a final project that focuses specifically on a chosen tree species and its vital ecosystem services.
