Bio

Greg Sawyer, MA, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has been working as counselor at the University of Minnesota’s Student Counseling Services (SCS) office for the past 5 years. Prior to his work as a mental health counselor, he serviced as a senior academic advisor at the University of Minnesota, College of Education and Human Development, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program for 15 years. Greg also taught several semesters for the Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing as a co-instructor for the CSPH 3211, Living on Purpose course. He also was the co-creator of the TRIO first year course for all incoming TRIO SSS students. He coordinates the Let’s Talk Program, and co-facilitate some group counseling spaces in SCS. Greg is an advocate for social and racial justice in his almost 20 years of work with the U of M and has always been committed to providing advocacy and support to students using a student-centered-student development approach. He is a graduate of the U of M and St. Mary’s University, and was born and raised in the Twin Cities. 

Professional Philosophy: Greg is a strong believer in the systems approach to understanding and learning ways to best navigate the world. He is a proponent of well managed mental health and works to guide and support students in their journey.
