Below are frequently asked questions by applicants to the Certificate in Integrative Therapies & Healing Practices - Health Coaching Track. If you have questions regarding admission to the program, many answers are provided below.

What is the admissions process for the Health Coaching Program?

All applicants are required to complete the University of Minnesota’s Graduate Online Application. We require the following information: transcripts, resume, English language proficiency exam (if required for international applicants), personal statement, resume, and letters of recommendation.

What are the prerequisites for admission to the health coaching program?

Students must have at least a four-year degree in a health-related field. For a list of approved degrees, please visit ‘before you apply’. Prerequisite coursework is dependent on previous experience.

What is the application deadline for the Health Coaching Program?

We only offer admission during the fall semester. The priority application deadline is February 1 (application materials must be received to be considered). The final deadline is March 15.

Do I have to take the GRE or GMAT?

No, the GRE or GMAT is not required and scores will not be taken into consideration when reviewing applications.

How long does the program take to complete?

2 semesters.

What kind of financial aid is available?

The Bakken Center offers a scholarship once per year. You can learn more about the A. Marilyn Sime scholarship here. Additional financial aid questions can be answered by contacting OneStop Student Services.

When will I be notified of admission?

Students will be notified via email within 4-6 weeks after the application deadline.

Can I take courses as a non-degree seeking student and apply them to the program later?

Yes! There is a limit to how many courses students can complete outside of a degree program. Please contact Christina for more information.

Do you offer information sessions?

Yes, information sessions are offered monthly October-March. You can find the information sessions here.

My prerequisite courses won't be completed by the applicatin deadline, can I still apply?

Yes, prerequisite coursework is not required for the Certificate Track. Coursework may be recommended and is dependent on previous coursework and experience.

Do I need a health-related baccalaureate degree to apply to the Certificate program?

Yes.  At this time we only accept those with a health-related degree into the Certificate program. 

Does the program provide lodging for the required in person intensive class dates?

No. The student is responsible for their own lodging. However, the Graduate Hotel is located within walking distance from where classes will be held. Other arrangements may include local AirBnB or VRBO to help offset travel costs. 

Does this degree qualify for an F-1 visa?

No. The Certificate in Integrative Therapies and Healing Practices-Health Coach Track does not meet the requirements for eligibility needed to obtain the appropriate F-1 student visa or status because this degree has limited (less than four) face-to-face on-site classes per course.
