Educational Program Standards and Individual Health Coach Board Certification
The University of Minnesota is a national leader in defining the scope of practice, developing educational competencies and standards of practice. Accreditation of our M.A. program and our Post-Baccalaureate Health Coaching Certification is conducted by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).
Through the NBHWC, the University of Minnesota’s Health Coaching programs have been approved since 2017. Our graduates achieve the highest level of knowledge and skills necessary to successfully complete the national board certification examination. University of Minnesota students are qualified to complete the national board certification exam after successful completion of the M.A. Health Coaching program or the Certificate in Integrative Therapies and Healing Practices: Health Coaching track. In addition, those who already have their NBC-HWC are permitted to waive 5701 Fundamentals of Health Coaching I (2 credits) and 5703 Health Coaching Practicum I (1 credit) in our health coaching programs. We have many exciting electives to choose from to replace these courses!
