Thirty (30) semester credits are required to complete the Master of Arts in Integrative Health and Wellbeing Coaching. It is not possible to complete this program fully online.

The new curriculum builds upon our strengths of personal transformation, group coaching skills, a strong internship program, and an integrative health focus. Our curriculum will increase the emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, trauma-informed coaching, and leadership. The Master of Arts program is a 2-year program.
Interested in becoming a Health Coach? Already an NBC-HWC or an ICF ACC?
We have options for those not certified yet and those seeking to become certified. For those already certified with their NBC-HWC or their ICF ACC, you will not need to take CSPH 5701 Fundamentals of Health Coaching and 5703 Health Coach Practicum I, both offered in the Fall semester. We have many CSPH electives to choose from to enhance your educational experience.
Do I Meet the Requirements?
The graduate faculty have established admission standards for the Master of Arts in Integrative Health and Wellbeing Coaching.
They include the following:
- a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in any discipline from an accredited U.S. institution or a foreign equivalent.
- A minimum degree GPA of 2.8 (based on a 4.0 scale)
- Two required prerequisite courses completed with a B- or better must be completed prior to the start of the program.
- A basic course in Human Physiology.
- A basic course in General Psychology*.

- CSPH 5701 Introduction to Health Coaching: Principles, Practices, and Personal Development (4 credits)
- CSPH 5702 Transformative Health Coaching: Empathy, Ethics, and Effective Communication (4 credits)
- CSPH 5707 Whole Person Health and Clinical Conditions (2 credits)
- CSPH 5708 Intersectional Perspectives in DEI, Mental Health, and Trauma-Informed Care (3 credits)
- CSPH 5709 Group Coaching Principles and Practicum (2 credits)
- CSPH 5714 Health Behavior Change Theory and Lifestyle Medicine (1 credit)
- CSPH 5715 Leadership and Evidence-based Decision Making (2 credits)
- CSPH 5716 Health Coaching Practicum: Deepening Skills and Optimizing Outcomes (1 credit)
- CSPH 8701 Integrative Health Coaching Internship & Capstone (3 credits)

Up to 10 credits may be completed^ prior to entering the program as a graduate non-degree seeking student or while enrolled in another master, doctoral, or professional level program at the University of Minnesota. Students must be admitted to the program before completing the remaining 20 required credits.
