A frequent criticism of western medical and wellness approaches is that they suffer from a historic separation of the mind and the body. This split has resulted in both losses and gains for our understanding of health and wellbeing, but it is not actually accurate. Instead, western culture and healing practices also include a wide range of therapies that holistically embrace the idea of the mind/body continuum. Such therapeutic approaches provide ways to rediscover more harmonious way to be in balance with our lives and world.

Is your curiosity piqued? If so, sign up for CSPH 5555 this spring. CSPH 5555, a 2-credit course that focuses on selected body and movement based physical, psychological, and spiritual practices that have developed in the west or integrate western and non-western wisdom to deepen our sense of embodied wholeness.

This course will be experiential and combine theoretical knowledge as well as personal embodied wisdom. No particular ability or movement skill is required. If you are alive you already move and have a relationship with your body. The course is appropriate for you, whether you want to discover ways to augment your relationship with your own body, or learn how to become or find a practitioner trained in in any of these approaches.
